BC Sports Hall of Fame will feature innovative digital yearbook for Hall of Champions

The newly renovated Hall of Champions at BC Place will be a reverential space dedicated to inducted members to the BC Sports Hall of Fame. This multi-purpose space will need to be versatile as it will be the key destination for members to see themselves within the hall, for visitors to learn about inducted members, and for hosting VIP events at the space. The photos of the inductees will be featured along the side walls of the hall, between cases that house the relevant artifacts. If visitors are curious to learn more about the inductee, they will proceed to the back wall where there will be a touch-screen interactive display to learn more.

The Exhibit
Working with Kei Space and 3 Dimensional Services, the exhibit will be created from two 46 inch multi-touch touch screens built into a custom cabinet at a drafts table arrangement. The two units displayed beside each other to create the illusion of one larger table. The hardware will be multi-user, allowing 2 independent users per screen, thus 4 at the combine 2 unit table. There will also be a ceiling-mounted projector to display digital content on the back wall of the gallery, to draw attention through to the Hall of Champions, from the front entrance.

Visitor Experience
The visitor experience will allow users to find profiles of inducted members, as they appear on the walls of the hall; however once found, they will have access to a greater depth of information and engaging content. While the static wall will feature photos, names, and 1 brief description, the interactive table will feature a Virtual Yearbook of athletes. The intent is to showcase the full story of the athlete, from the official story to the personal memories and inspirations.

Search or Explore
The engaging software will be designed to encourage visitors to explore in a few different ways, to allow for various learning styles, and the variety of the demographics of the target audience (from school aged children to VIP event guests). Key interaction methods will be:

  • Explore: for the ‘gatherer’ of information to learn by following what interests them on the screen in a non-linear exploratory fashion
  • Search: for the ‘hunter’ of information to specifically search on a key word or name.

Athlete Profiles
The yearbook will include a depth of information to encourage visitors to get to know the inducted athletes better. When viewing the Virtual Yearbook, the visitor could view an inspirational quote from the athlete, a video of the athlete in action, and even list their mentor as they were developing as athletes. The featured photos and videos may include official portraits as well as sports action shots and photos from the day they were inducted into the Hall.

MacDonald Island Park to showcase new Legacy Video Wall for New Year's Eve

MacDonald Island Park is a family friendly destination that is at the heart of the community for Fort McMurray, Alberta. The park consists of a Golf Club, an Aquatic Centre, and a Leisure Centre, with future plans for a stadium. Referred to as ‘Your Island Playground’, the park is as a hub of local activity for residents and visitors. Working with Margot McLaren Art + Design and 3DS, NGX will provide a touch screen and video wall exhibit for a “Legacy Wall” that allows visitors to explore the story of the MacDonald Island Park. The exhibit will open in time for New Year’s Eve!

The Exhibit
Technology will provide an opportunity to showcase community spirit – through an engaging and exciting digital interactive experience. The “Legacy Wall” will be installed in a busy corridor within the Suncor Leisure centre, to ensure excellent exposure to the intended audience and engage the natural curiosity of the pedestrian traffic that will be passing by. The exhibit will consist of 8 x 40” LCD monitors that are driven by two 42” LCD touch screens.

The Video Wall Experience
The panoramic nature of the video wall screens lends itself to a visually compelling scene. This scene has been created with a colorful collage treatment with a strong base in community and recreation, including people, activities and elements from the recreation centre (waterslide, curling stone, skates, basketball, landscape, and building). Featured images will pop up in playful ways within composite landscape, such as a special events stage, on a sign held by a mascot, and even on a hockey puck!

The Touch Screen Experience
The interface design will make it easy to explore the Community Photo Album, Special Events and Donor sections. Media can be explored in a linear way by scrolling through sequentially with arrows, or in a non-linear way by searching with an on screen keyboard or making use of a prominent tag cloud. The interface design is a whimsical sunny sky, with puffy clouds and playful signs.

The Marriage of the Screens
While engaging with the touch screen interface, visitors will be able to press a “like” button on each image. When a visitor ‘likes’ a photo, the video wall will display a burst of energy from below and that photo will appear. This will connect the touch screen with the video wall above. Once the photo appears on the video wall, it will hang for a few seconds, and then ‘fall back’ to the touch screen. It will appear to the visitor or passersby that the ‘liking’ of this photo indeed triggered the effect; this will encourage visitors to explore further and like more photos.

NGX Interactive creates three exhibits for Science World's new Our World Gallery

As part of Science World’s large scale renovation project, Science World has planned a new exhibit gallery at the front entrance of the building. This new “Our World” gallery focuses on human interactions with our natural world. In particular, the gallery communicates a strong message of environmentalism, sustainability, and community awareness for positive impact. The 2,000 square foot full exhibit includes 6 exhibits, which will be collectively managed by Science World Special Project’s team. NGX Interactive, with our exhibit fabrication partner, 3DS, has produced 3 of these exhibits:

Water Cannon Game
This game allows visitors to visualize water conservation with a fun and engaging water cannon game. Visitors shoot their water cannons at roving targets within three zones of the backdrop: Agriculture, People, & Industry. If they aim well, they can make the game last longer, as the water is used but not wasted. The lesson of the game is that we do need to use water, but we should use it wisely.

Recycle or Trash Game
This game allows visitors to test their recycling knowledge with props that are tagged with RFID tags. Visitors will sort the recycled objects into one of two bins: recyclable or non-recyclable. A RFID reader will detect the objects with RFID antennae within the cabinet. The game will report on the success of their choices, and provide useful tips for recycling as a takeaway message. This lesson helps visitors in subsequent visits to the game, and in real life!

Water’s For Dinner Game
This game allows visitors to visualize the water consumption of food choices. Visitors use a touch screen to drag their food choices onto their plate. Once the food is chosen, visitors can see how much water is needed to produce that food – as shown visually through the number of physical bathtubs that dynamically fill up. The lesson of this game is that since 70% of all fresh water is used for agriculture, people can have a positive impact on water conservation with their food choices.

Explore the story of the carousel horses at the Don Wrigley Pavillion at Burnaby Village Museum

The City of Burnaby’s “Burnaby Village Museum” is a family friendly destination where visitors can step back in time. The 1920s era village is a combination of heritage and replica buildings on a 10-acre site. The village includes a tram stop, blacksmith, apothecary, schoolhouse, farmhouse, and church. The carousel pavilion, a destination within the museum, features a restored 1912 carousel. The Carousel was brought to Burnaby Village Museum in 1993, after being purchased and restored by a volunteer group, the Friends of the Carousel. The restoration of each of the 39 horses was funded through sponsorship, with each horse named by their sponsor. NGX Interactive, with our exhibit fabrication partner, 3DS, will provide a touch screen exhibit that allows visitors to explore the story of the Carousel and its horses.

The Exhibit
Technology will provide an opportunity for parents and children to explore and learn more about the carousel, its history, and the story of the horses. Touch screens will be housed in an exhibit that befits a museum of this era and works with the visitor flow of the space. Each panel will be decorative millwork with detailing that reflects the time in history. The kiosk will help to extend and deepen their experience of riding the carousel, and help to build their appreciation for the horses as artistic and cultural artifacts.

The Story
Information on each horse will include:

  • Each horse’s name, and origin of the name
  • The name of the donor who restored the horse
  • The design features of each horse, including the style of horse
  • Before and after photographs of the horse, highlighting the restoration

Other highlighted information will include ‘did you know’ facts about the museum, its history, and current events.

The Visitor Experience
Visitors will spin the onscreen carousel to explore and select their horse of interest. When a horse is selected, the carousel moves to the background, leaving the selection as the center of attention. The software will be built for multiple visitors to interact with the carousel at one time. One visitor can explore photos and narrative of the restoration of a horse, while another learns about the horse’s sponsor including how the horse was named. New vocabulary terms can be discovered via inset bubbles, while visual details can be studied with a magnifying glass. Visitors can even vote for their favorite horse, with a ‘like’ button that neighs in appreciation.

Social Media
Two ePostcard terminals will be included in the exhibit. These terminals allow visitors to create an ePostcard with their favourite carousel horse and share it with their friends and family!. The ePostcard function is a natural extension of the current experience where parents take many photos of their children with their favourite horses. By using the ePostcard terminal to take a photo, they will be able to create a digital takeaway that they can share with friends and family by email and social media. Thus, the museum would harness the power of user generated content to spread the awareness of the carousel to other potential visitors. Each recipient of the ePostcard would be reminded of the family friendly fun destination and encourage repeat and new visits.

Visitors to Comox, BC explore Vancouver Island via Multi-Touch Discovery Touch Table

Working with the Comox Valley Economic Development Society, Aldrich Pears Associates, and 3 Dimensional Services, Netgenetix Media will supply consulting services, interactive technology, and software and multimedia development for the Vancouver Island Coastal Discovery Centre. The anticipated audience will be primarily Canadians, with 50% of visitors from BC. This number includes a high proportion of anticipated visits from Comox valley locals. Thus the centre, and correspondingly the technology, needs to serve this broad audience, while actively engaging the local community. The interactive technology will do this with relevant information and impactful imagery that instills locals pride and captures the imagination of all visitors.

The full visitor experience to the centre includes themed exhibits relating to recreation, ecotourism, and conservation. The island overview exhibit is the centerpiece of the main gallery, with a 55-inch Interactive Touch Table that allows multiple people to interact with the touch surface at one time. The goal of this exhibit is to introduce the diverse landscapes, tourism activities, communities, and cultures of Vancouver Island and encourage visitors to explore them. The centre serves as a gateway to the island, while the table will be the “Window to the Island” – a virtual window to the community. It should be a way to discover and experience the Island virtually. The idea is for visitors to have fun, learn something, and be motivated to stay longer in the region, and spend more while they are there!

Knowing that the touch table will be at the center of the interpretive exhibit space, the table will focus on interactive fun, visitor engagement, and scenic photography from Tourism BC. The touch table content will echo the thematic landscape of the full exhibit space: ocean, alpine, forests, and agriculture. However, the touch table will take these themes in a different direction – through digital wow factor, innovative content, and visitor engagement. Visitors will be able to discover the island through the visuals on the table, and be inspired to seek their island adventures.

Visitor Experience – Discovery
As the visitor approaches the table, they notice an enticing mosaic of individual photos that combine to create mesmerizing visual impact. The mosaic is animating slowly and fluidly, drawing the visitor in to interact with the images. The overall effect is visually appealing from a distance as well as up close at the table. The mosaic image is a thematic landscape that echoes the themes of the full exhibit space: ocean, alpine, forests, and agriculture. The 4 large mosaics correlate by virtually representing a wave, a mountain, a forest, and a community. The individual photos that comprise the mosaic correlate to these exhibit themes as well. During inactivity, the mosaic will animate for movement, interest, and to entice interaction – including an animation to show what would happen if someone touches the table surface.

Visitor Experience - Exploration
As a visitor touches the table, their personal window appears to allow exploration of the images. The personal window is resizable and interactive. Images will be selected for their wow factor, regional relevance, correlation to theme, and photo quality. Once a visitor is done looking at a photo, they can close their personal window to go back to exploring on the large surface of the table, or they can continue to explore within their personal window.

Visitor Experience - Inspiration
Periodically, the background image of the table will change from the animating mosaic to one large photo that fills the entire background screen of the table. The image will stay on the surface of the table for a predefined length of time, and then will fade back to the mosaic imagery. This hidden surprise will be triggered by user interaction, with a “love it” vote for a popular image. The effect of this surprise will be to engage visitors in the larger collective experience of the other visitors at the table – and to utilize the full size of the table for select stunning imagery.

By focusing the visitor experience at the table towards eye catching visuals and inspiring imagery, the software concept encourages visitors to get inspired – without inundating them with too much information. The visuals speak for themselves – and let visitors explore, discover, and prepare themselves for their island adventure.

New website for Potential Squared to showcase brand personality

In 2007, as a newly formed organization, Potential Squared worked with Netgenetix to develop their brand identity. The project incorporated all facets of their brand, from logo design, to print collateral, to website design and development, thus brand synergy was a critical element of the project. The design elements were symbolic of the brand message, with symbols of gardening and growth to convey success and creativity, while the professional corporate feel represented a trustworthy and established company.

Since that time, Potential Squared has evolved; while they still represent growth and success, they are now more accurately described by passion, energy, fierce conversations, restless dissatisfaction, and personal engagement. This evolution of Potential Squared’s brand inspires the need for the new website design project to convey who the people are behind Potential Squared: engaging, ambitious, confident, informal, unconventional, insightful, curious, and intuitive.

The key themes of Potential Squared brand are:

  • Refreshingly Direct (engaging, direct, on point, personality, assertive)
  • Return on investment (commerciality of effect on business)
  • Fun to do business with (rewarding personally as well as professionally)
  • Passionate for cultural difference (global but flexible; not one approach fits all)
  • International presence (local but cosmopolitan)
  • Balance (Edgy but corporate, quirky but professional)

"Our underlying principle in everything we do is that of “Refreshingly Direct”. We don’t shy away from giving our opinion – we will give you honest feedback in all situations – even when your colleagues or other partners shy away from doing so. We encourage your leaders and managers to step out of their comfort zones, pushing them to be better leaders than they believe they could be. …We are experts in presenting ourselves. We are about experiential learning. Our website needs to represent this’ Annalisa Hunter, Director, Potential Squared

The fresh new design will have a much stronger emphasis on creative visuals rather than paragraphs of text. Website communications objectives include:

  • Appeal to Broader Range -  Auditory, Visual, & Kinesthetic
  • Inspire Visitors to Feel Something - What does the website inspire you to do?
  • Explosion of energy and movement - slightly informal unconventional delivery
  • Engage Audience With Tone - conveys how the people are in person:
  • Make value proposition very clear - Voice, Relationships with purpose, Directness
  • What is their geographic coverage: Footprint, Breadth, Depth, Presence

About Potential Squared

Potential Squared are a consulting, training and development company specialising in driving increased business performance through the assessment and development of commercial behaviour.

BC Soccer and Netgenetix partner for BC Soccer World at Canada Day event

Netgenetix Media is proud to announce its partnership with the BC Soccer Association to bring interactive soccer exhibits to the BC Soccer World, a feature zone at the Canada Day celebrations at Canada Place festivities on July 1st. BC Soccer World is a team effort between BC Soccer, Canada Place, community partners KidSport (Sport BC), ActNow BC, SportMed BC, the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Washington State Youth Soccer, and sponsors Ubisoft, Netgenetix, EarthSport and the Williams Health Group.

The event will transform the Exhibit Hall B under the iconic white sails at Canada Place into a soccer zone of fun, fitness and friendship with a center court surrounded by several activity zones. With an expected 175,000 attendees this year, the July 1st Canada Day celebration at Canada Place will prove to be an exciting event to debut BC Soccer World.

BC Soccer World has partnered with Netgenetix Media to showcase soccer-themed digital media at the event. An interactive glass touch wall will allow visitors to learn about BC Soccer World and its partners in an entertaining, interactive and informative manner. A green screen video postcard experience will allow visitors to become a part of the action, enabling them to create a video of themselves engaged in dramatic soccer action with players from around the world. Visitors will then upload their video to the web and share it with their friends and families via social media.

BC Soccer is the largest provincial sport organization (PSO) in BC and the third largest soccer specific PSO in Canada. It believes in the power of soccer and looks to develop the game by emphasizing its benefits of active and healthy living while supporting its member clubs, districts and leagues to strengthen and unite their local soccer community.

"We are very excited to partner with Netgenetix for BC Soccer World as part of the Canada Day at Canada Place celebration. Merging their exciting interactive technology with the universal passion of our global game is an opportunity we simply could not pass up.” Bjorn Osieck, Executive Director BC Soccer Association.

Netgenetix Media celebrates it's 10 year anniversary

On April 1, 2010, Netgenetix Media celebrated our 10 year anniversary! We’ve come a long way in 10 years from our inauspicious beginnings as a small web business. Our recent successes with our digital interactive technology displays during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games was an excellent way to mark this milestone.

We also decided to have some fun as a team, as we believe that a team that plays together stays together – and stays innovative, creative, and collaborative.

The team worked together to plan 3 surprises for our CEO:

  • a retrospective video that highlighted the journey the team has been on the last 10 years, as well as the many outtakes from our testing process with our personal video terminals. It is amazing how many laughs a team can have from testing their own product!

  • a yearbook that featured congratulatory messages from key clients, vendors, and collaborators – as well as humorous team bios and candid photos. Many thanks for all the heartfelt messages - and for helping to keep the yearbook a surprise until the big day!

  • 12 symbolic gifts that were each presented by a different staff member to tell a story and reflect on 10 years in business. They were gag gifts, but with the most sincere of sentiments.

These gifts and reflections included:

  • ‘Entrepreneur’s Magazine’ as a symbol of the start of this journey. It takes great courage and gumption to be an entrepreneur.
  • Funny little people figurines – to symbolize how the business flourishes with the ‘right people of the bus’ – without the team, there would be no Netgenetix.
  • A skipping rope as a reminder of the hoops that we have all had to jump through on our way to success.
  • A Yo-yo , as you have to learn new tricks, and sometimes tricky new talents, to survive in business.
  • A box of band-aids, emblazoned with the message ‘keep calm and carry on’, to symbolize that the 10 years haven’t been easy, but when you learn from your mistakes, it makes you stronger. You just have to pick up and keep going.
  • A lego set of a helicopter to show that you can have fun at work when you can build cool things together as a team.
  • Guitar key toppers (keytars) to symbolize how business flourishes when there is a balance of work and personal life, since our CEO, Leigh, has learned to play the guitar in the last 3 years.
  • ‘Speech bubble’ sticky notes to represent the importance of all the intense discussions and enlightening conversations – and the role that they have played in shaping Netgenetix’s future.
  • A tape dispenser that is shaped to be a women’s high heel shoe to show how business has flourished with a balance of men and women in the office.
  • A laptop light to symbolize the bright ideas (and long nights) that have made Netgenetix what it is today.
  • A bell hop bell to symbolize how the key to success has been learning to delegate!
  • A hammer decorated with flowers to symbolize the process of building a strong company – and how that company flourished when we ventured into the physical realm with our tools and creativity!

As represented by the Netgenetix tree in our branding: ‘Don't be afraid to go out on a limb. That's where the fruit is.’ (H. Jackson Brown Jr.)

User-generated Videos from the Olympic and Paralympic Torch Relay Routes

The Olympic and Paralympic Torch Relays of the Vancouver 2010 Games set the stage for the largest event in Vancouver’s history. The touring exhibition featured a elaborate route that the torch would travel throughout Canada. This route allowed people in remote communities across the country to be touched by the Olympic and Paralympic spirit in the lead up to the games. Community celebrations were planned along the Torch route, celebrations that included interactive technology exhibits from major sponsors, including RBC and Coca-cola.

As the host province for the games, the British Columbia government contributed a interactive exhibit that travelled with the relay for all sites that were located in BC. Initially based in a 15x15 tent, and later in a branded trailer, the technology needed to be portable, durable for repeated use over an extended duration of time, and able to be set up in less than two hours. The event dates were October 30th-November 3rd, 2009 and January 20th-February 12th, 2010 and March 6-12, 2010. The tour ended with a 24 hour celebration in Robson Square on March 12, 2010.

Working with Pace Group, Netgenetix was the interactive technology provider for the British Columbia government. The exhibit for the Province of BC focused on interactive technology that would encourage visitors to feel part of the Olympic and Paralympic experience. People could record personal video messages with the theme ‘Welcome the World to BC’ for the Games. Our video terminals featured an engaging touch-screen interface and were mounted at variable heights to allow for access for a range of individuals including children and the disabled.

These messages helped people demonstrate the pride of the home province to visitors from around the world. The best of the recorded messages were later displayed at the center of the action, projected on the side of the Sears building, at the Robson Square Celebration Site. The videos were displayed in front of a map of the province, showing the origin of that particular message. Thus, the video terminals allowed the Province to complement their ad campaign of ‘You Gotta Be Here’ with genuine user-generated content of the same theme!

The exhibit also showcased the beauty of BC with tourism footage of the province displayed on large screen flat panel TVs. The video provided a more traditional technology piece to balance highly interactive terminals, and provided variety and interest for viewers as they walk in and through the tent or trailer. Netgenetix technicians travelled with the tour to provide technical set up and support, as well as playing a role as event representatives to encourage visitors to record their messages. “Thank you for your hard work in preparing for the Olympic and the Paralympic Torch Relays. The software was user friendly, the interface was sleek and the technicians were the best we’ve ever had.” Robyn Jones-Murrell, Director, Conferences and Special Events, Pace Group.

BC Canada Pavilion showcases leaders in digital interactive media

The BC Canada Pavilion is located on the 4th floor of the Vancouver Art Gallery, conveniently adjacent to the Robson Square Celebration Site. The Pavilion serves as a destination for VIP guests, media and general public during the Olympics.

There’s something for everyone here, with a storytelling concept includes 4 distinct experiences for each of the wings of the gallery:

  • Immersive Forest - A multi-sensory interactive ‘BC Rainforest’ experience
  • Green Energy - A green gallery that showcases the best of BC’s technology
  • Digital Media - A new media gallery that highlights digital media innovation
  • Reception Space – An elegant hosting space, including a covered outdoor patio.

Working with key partners, Netgenetix Media provided interactive solutions for the Green Gallery:

3D Multisensory Theatre

The 16-seat multi-sensory 3D movie theatre system integrates state of the art sensory stimulation with custom 3D film content. The system highlights included 3D HD film, surround sound, time-triggered scents, wind simulation, lighting effects and vibration. The 3 minute film showcases ?Super Natural British Columbia? by following a BC family through an action-packed day of adventures around town ? shot in the first person perspective through the eyes of the father

Social Media Interactive Kiosks

The epostcard terminals empower visitors with the ability to create digital photo postcards to email them directly to their friends and family. Via a user-firendly touch-screen interface, visitors take their photo, enter their message, and send their Olympic dream postcard

Interactive Glass Touchwalls

The floor-to-ceiling touch-walls create a stunning visual that is also an interactive story of 4 leading edge BC businesses. Content for additional touch-screens includes an interactive floor-plan and a learning module about a sustainable building.

Multimedia Gallery

We were also involved deeply in the adjacent Digital Media room in a project management role. Netgenetix coordinated the content and technology development process involving many high-profile corporations such as Disney, Electronic Arts, Tangible Interaction, Company Policy, CIS, and Rainmaker. The room features a forest of digital light sticks, a timelapse video of the making of a large graffiti art exhibit (large format projection on a wall), and 3 interactive multi-touch cubes. Each of the touch-screen cubes features their own theme for collaborative play: an interactive 4-seasoned "Curious tree", a "play" themed cube, and a "making of" cube that features digital special effects in movies such as Invictus.

The experience of contributing to the BC Pavilion has been a highlight of the games. We encourage all to visit the Pavilion and see for yourself.

Robson Square features Green Screen Photo Experience and Viewfinder Videos

The activities at Robson Square's Celebration Site are family-friendly fun, from photo ops, zip line, stages for performers, and a nightly 'Ignite the Dream' show. The square is also a hub for media and business, with live televisions broadcasts from the British Columbia International Media Centre, business programs at the 2010 Commerce Centre, special events at the BC Showcase and skating at the GE Plaza.  Working with key partners, Netgenetix provided technology solutions that reinforce why 'You Gotta Be Here' in BC.

Video Vignettes

The zip line that crosses Robson Square has become a highlight of the activities at Robson Square. To keep visitors amused and entertain while they wait for their opportunity to zip across the square, viewfinders have been positioned along the path of the cue. When visitors look into the viewfinders, they watch promotional videos that showcase the beauty and scenery BC.

These videos, which were created from stock footage, promote eight themes:

  • Be here for the snow!
  • Be here for our award-winning wines!
  • Be here for the peak experience!
  • Be here for the Wildlife!
  • Be here to make a splash!
  • Be here for outdoor adventure!
  • Be here for our world class cities!
  • Be here for the rush!

'Front of the News' Green Screen Interactive Terminal

This terminal allows visitors to 'See Yourself in the Headlines' with a virtual newspaper theme. The photo experience, with the help of green screen technology, allows visitors to be integrated into the interesting visuals of the generated image. The green screen terminal features 3 photo background options, as well as a flat screen tv for visitors to preview their image. The system then prints their photo within a newspaper themed template for a souvenir of their visit to Robson Square.

Robson Square's Celebration Site highlights the spirit and enthusiasm of this province, and provides a positive experience with the 'You Gotta Be Here' brand for both visitors and hometown folks. It is an opportunity to build on what is known about British Columbia and reinforce the perception of British Columbia as a dynamic, creative, innovative player on the world stage. Netgenetix Media is proud and grateful to be a part of this experience.

Canada's Northern House features Interactive Video Message Terminals

Canada’s Northern House is a visitor’s center that showcases the Northern Territories. It is open in Vancouver from December 2009 until April 2010, with the highlight being the Winter Olympic Games in February 2010. The objective of the house is the promotion of the Northern Territories in terms of economic development, tourism, and arts and culture. The exhibit is a multipurpose 2 story space, which will includes a retail space, art gallery, performance space, and hosting venue for events. The location is compelling, on the corner of Hastings St. and Seymour St, in close proximity to Waterfront Station for visitors arriving into Vancouver.

Personal interactive experiences engage each individual in the experience, help people connect to a brand, and hopefully leave the consumer with a story to tell others. Social networking success shows that there is a desire for people not only to ‘live’ the experience themselves but to also connect with others in a shared experience. Working with the marketing and media partners of Canada’s Northern House, Netgenetix Media provided the following digital interactive solutions:

Personalized Video Message Terminals

The Personal Video Message Terminals allow visitors to record video postcard messages and then send them to friends and family. The video camera is be positioned to capture the background activity of the gallery itself. Beyond novelty, the terminals provide convenience to visitors who want to avoid expensive bandwidth costs to send video messages home from the Games. The friends and family receive a branded email with a link back to a mini-site to view the personalized video.

Green Screen Interactive Terminal

The Green Screen Interactive Terminal provides a video postcard experience that, with the help of green screen technology, allows visitors to be integrated into the interesting visuals. The terminals feature a touch screen interface to select the videos, as well as to send the video to their friends and family. Canada’s Northern House provides 2 video storyline options to visitors – Northern Lights or Create your own Arctic Adventure from 5 mini video clips.

The success of the venue to promote the Northern Territories can be quantified in numerous ways, including volume of foot traffic to the site, sales of merchandise at the retail store, popularity of the site as a hosting and performance venue, and cross-promotion of local art galleries. Additionally, digital initiatives can track usage of exhibits at the venue, collection of visitor data and demographics. However, the best measure of success is the popularity of the gallery with visitors to Vancouver, as evidenced by the perpetual cue to enter the building.

The Canadian Red Cross Campaign Website 'We Answer' promotes awareness

Netgenetix is thrilled to announce the launch of We Answer, www.weanswer.ca, a website design and development project for the Canadian Red Cross. The project is a collaborative venture with Big House Communications, a Vancouver-based marketing agency, to commemorate the Centennial for the Canadian Red Cross. Netgenetix Media created the website portion of the integrated public relations and fundraising campaign that includes radio, tv, print, and local events.

The Canadian Red Cross is a charity organization that has served locally and internationally for 100 years. Despite its prominence, confusion remains in the eyes of the public as to the role of the Red Cross, its programs, its geographic focus, and its need for public support with volunteerism and financial donations. The goal of this website project is to address this confusion to dispel any myths about the Red Cross, educate and inform the target audience, and engage website visitors to take action. The project focus is on the charity's local efforts in three program areas: Humanitarian Programs, Disaster and Conflict, and Health and Injury Prevention.

All media efforts feature Tragedy as a caller, and the Red Cross as the one who will answer the call. The website takes inspiration from the other media efforts, and is relevant to the campaign's objectives, while optimizing the unique opportunities of the online medium. All media efforts drive visitors to the website for more information.

The website focuses on key themes:

Reinforce CRC's activity locally in BC

Visual emphasis that the Red Cross is an organization that helps in very real, local ways is showcased in an interactive map of program stories. The map provides strong visual impact for the number of stories, and the geographic dispersion of the stories in the lower mainland and in BC. It also offers a dynamic and creative approach to program content.

Increase Awareness of Red Cross Programs and History

An interactive timeline provides a chronological snapshot of personal stories that represent local efforts by the Canadian Red Cross. Visitor interaction is encouraged with an opportunity to 'share your story' with the Red Cross. Archival photos are featured to reinforce the history of the charity.

Continuity with the TV and Radio Ads

The website loads with the final scene from the tv ad, to ensure creative continuity for the two mediums. After 'tragedy' calls, the telephone becomes the main navigation for the site. A notebook falls into place beside the phone, as a natural place to feature the body content of the site. The tv and radio ads are also featured within the site under See & Hear.

Encourage Visitors to Get Involved

The website features four calls to action for visitors to respond and 'answer the call' with the Red Cross: donate, become a member, volunteer, and attend events. Local events are showcased in an engaging visual calendar.

The website was launched June 15, 2009 and subsequently announced at the Power of Humanity event and Canadian Red Cross Annual General Meeting June 16, 2009. www.weanswer.ca

Netgenetix provides usability, design, and programming services to ALS Minerals

ALS Minerals came to Netgenetix in January 2009 for a fresh perspective on their custom web application, Webtrieve. Webtrieve allows client companies and geologists secure access to their lab results for their mineral samples. The web application was developed by ALS staff over many years, who built a robust system for their active user base. Netgenetix was tasked with providing usability recommendations, a modernized design, and updated technology for the application.

ALS Minerals is a Vancouver business that specializes in analyzing mineral samples for the geology and mining industry. Samples are handled by ALS labs, and then the data is published to a secure site for review by client company geologists. As the target audience of the application is technology-minded and often accessing the site from remote locations, performance and usability are key considerations for ALS.

The engagement with Netgenetix began in January with a thorough Requirements Analysis project. Through a series of meetings and interviews with ALS stakeholders and client companies, coupled with a detailed assessment of the Webtrieve code and site architecture, Netgenetix was able to provide a recommendation for the redevelopment. The deliverables of this project included:

  1. Situational Outlook Report
  2. Project Scope Document
  3. Functional Requirements Document
  4. Site Map of Information Architecture
  5. Wireframes of Page Templates
  6. User Profile Descriptions
  7. Optimized User Paths
  8. Development Delivery Plan
  9. Success Indicators Document

Following on the planning of the requirements project, a web development project began in March of 2009. Essentials of the development project included: redesign of the site for a new modern look-and-feel, redevelopment of the system to convert from ASP to ASP.NET, usability changes that were recommended during the requirements analysis, and improved browser compatibility (from Internet Explorer only to IE, Firefox, Safari, and Google’s Chrome).

The redeveloped Webtrieve was released to select clients in late May. New discussions are now underway for feature upgrades for Webtrieve this summer.

Profiles Global plans new website, client center, and website admin tools

Profiles Global has once again selected Netgenetix Media to develop their online identity and custom software. Profiles Global first came to Netgenetix in 2001 to create the online portion of their business. Their 2001 site was very advanced for the times, with a content management system, distributor management administration, and advanced reporting features, including online assessments for personality profiles. With the advancement in design and technologies in the ensuing 8 years, Profiles Global now has the unique opportunity to once again establish themselves as leaders in their industry.

Profiles Global is a Vancouver based business that provides personality assessments to the Human Resources industry. The assessments are based on DISC theory, which was developed by William Molton Marsden. DISC theory describes individuals by four criteria: Dominance (D), Influence (I), Steadiness (S), and Compliance or Conscientiousness (C). Jobs can also be assessed by the same criteria as people, to highlight the desired characteristics for a particular position. Based on the results of an assessment, companies and HR professionals can suitably match available roles to the most relevant candidates.

The new website will serve multiple target audiences, including assessment takers, client companies, and potential distributors. The clean corporate design will inspire confidence in Profiles Global as a stable, professional leader in the human resources assessments industry. Effective use of color and imagery will reinforce the branding of Profiles Global as a trustworthy and modern organization. The design will be influenced by a renewed logo design, including the tagline ‘Insight that delivers results’. The project also includes the development of print collateral, such as letterhead, envelopes, and presentation folders.

The new client center will be the heart of the site. The client center will service multiple levels of permissions, from assessment takers, to client companies, to distributors, as well as to Profiles Global staff and website administrators. Based on their login, each visitor will have access to the relevant functionality that serves their objectives. Features include: online assessments and reporting, client management, distributor management, email campaign manager, website content management, assessment reports content management, and web analytics. Assessments will be available for multi-lingual audiences as well, initially including Spanish and French, with more languages added as Profiles Global expands internationally.

The website will be built with SEO strategy in mind, to help the site be found by potential audiences. This SEO strategy follows the framework that Netgenetix has developed for their Citrus SEO services. This includes 5 core steps: baseline assessment of current site and competitors, recommendations of strategy and keywords, implementation of SEO tactics, followed by notification of the site to search engines, and a 90-day post release follow up measure of ROI.

Canadian wedding name change service launched at www.imamrs.com

Netgenetix Media announces the launch of a new Canadian bridal name change website, www.imamrs.com. 'I'm a mrs' provides a paid service for new brides to manage the marriage name change process. The website is critical to the business success of 'I'm a mrs', as the business is entirely web-based.

The Service

The name change service is available to brides who purchase a membership to the site. Website visitors can also purchase gift cards as a useful wedding gift. Once registered, new members are stepped through a wizard to select which forms are the most relevant to them. They can manage their ‘to do’ list of forms within an editable checklist that allows an at-a-glance view of all the forms for that member. For each form, they can download a pdf that auto-fills with their personal details; once downloaded, they print it off and submit it by mail.

Administration Tools

Zowie CMS is integrated with the website to allow the staff at 'I'm a mrs' to easily update the content to the site. A newsletter email marketing tool allows 'I'm a mrs' staff to promote the website to the bridal community. Membership accounts are managed with an online tool that enables administrators to manage and communicate with their subscribed members. A Document Management System (DMS) allows staff to add to and maintain the marriage name change documents.

Creative Design

Brand synergy across marketing efforts, including logo, print, and web design, was a critical element of the project. The creative design was a collaborative process with Mozez of Wrench Creative. Design work began with the logo as the visual anchor of the brand. The website design is modern and minimal, while also playful and stylish.

Citrus SEO

Citrus SEO, Netgenetix Media’s professional website search engine optimization service, was an essential element of the project to ensure that the website is visible to potential brides. SEO strategies include evaluating SEO opportunities left vacant by competitors, making effective use of content keyword seeding, and promoting backlinks to www.imamrs.com. The site also includes a ‘send to a friend’ feature to encourage website visitors to promote the site.

The 'I'm a mrs' website was launched December 15, 2008 just in time for the upcoming wedding planning season. www.imamrs.com

New employee website helps LQA administrators coordinate travel schedules

Leading Quality Assurance is a UK-based organization that specializes in hotel service standard inspections and benchmarking services for the luxury travel industry. LQA has worked with Netgenetix since 2004, including most recently a major project last winter to redesign the corporate logo, website, and client area.

The new project goals included integrating office administration tasks such as hotel contract management, consultant travel scheduling, flight approvals, vacation requests, and other various administrative tasks within the employee website. In particular, the project involved moving the scheduling process online to create a centralized resource for consultants and administrators.

The legacy offline method of scheduling involved many disparate tools, from Excel spreadsheets, to ACT CRM Software. This was a complex process that involved over 500 hotels with 180 inspections per month with 24 consultants. The new process integrates intelligent logic between each step of the process, from creating contracts, to assigning consultants to a hotel, to documenting a travel schedule for each consultant. This process also includes an approval system for flight costs, vacation days, special requests, and internal office days.

The employee site was redesigned to coordinate with the look and feel of the public website: www.leadingquality.com. Additional upgrades include advanced search functionality, and data synchronization between the employee site and the secure client website. New features that will be added in January include CRM functionality and a central resource for office documentation.

The new employee website went live December 12, 2008 in time for planning and scheduling for 2009.

The Blackmarkers Set to Launch Online Store for Street Fashion

The Blackmarkers is a new Vancouver-based boutique online merchant of street fashion. Street fashion is trend setter clothing with a niche in graphic t-shirts, denim, shoes, and hats. Typical customers are art and music inspired individuals who may be flagged by society as different. The tagline for the Blackmarkers is ‘Knowledge of the Esoteric’. The Blackmarkers selected Netgenetix Media for their website development project due to the desire to create a unique design that also provides smart functionality.

The online store will feature a filtered selection of street fashion from around the world. The Blackmarkers will launch with 14 brands of street fashion, including Ten Deep, Crooks, Staple, Twelve Bar, and Homeroom Clothing. These products are also carried in specialty boutiques that pay close attention to design, details, and atmosphere. There is currently a rare opportunity to bring that same aesthetic into an online environment.

Many of the Blackmarkers competitors have brick and mortar stores, but also offer online shopping via cookie cutter shopping carts based on pre-built systems. In contrast, the goal for the Blackmarkers is to develop a site that provides a better shopping experience for their customers, while also conveying a professional impression for their suppliers. The website will be integrated with a third party shopping cart system, aspdotnetstorefront, that allows exceptional customization for layout and design.

Although the Black Markers will not be a brick and mortar store, boutique stores in urban centers are also competitors for street fashion. These stores appear exclusive because they intentionally display low inventory, where a customer will have to ask for their size from the back of the store. It is this exclusive, yet funky and alternative feel that is essential to the website design for the Blackmarkers. The design needs to have striking impact with creative flair that adds wow without compromising usability. The visual nature of the online store is essential to create a memorable brand impression.

The website and online store is currently in development and will be launched in Spring 2009. www.theblackmarkers.com

Smak's web-based Project Management Application to feature new DMS

Smak is a guerilla marketing agency located in Vancouver and Toronto. Smak worked with Netgenetix in 2007 to build a new website and internal project management application. The new project is an upgrade to the project management application to create a dynamic document wizard that will allow staff to easily create and edit internal and client facing documentation.

The legacy system for managing corporate branded documents involved Word Template files. These documents were attractive for communicating with clients and useful for their organization to promote a common format while filling out the document details; however, the template files were cumbersome to work with. The document wizard was suggested as an alternate approach to manage the documents with improved usability, workflow, and functionality.

The document wizard allows non-technical users to enter information into a simplified interface of questions and answers. Tool tips are set up for each section to prompt staff on the appropriate way to fill out the form. The wizard can be stepped through in a linear fashion, section by section, including ‘next’ / ‘previous’ button sets, or the user can jump from tab to tab to fill out the information as it is available. Certain questions are deemed ‘required’ that prevent the document from being published without them. Other questions can be left blank, and the software will intelligently hide the unanswered questions from the rendered document.

Upon answering the questions, staff can save their data or publish the completed wizard as a finished document. The generated documents are branded with the corporate graphics to ensure a consistent design aesthetic. Once published, alerts can be sent to clients to notify them of the availability of the new document. When a document is opened by a client, read receipts are sent to the account manager. This tool also allows multiple levels of users to contribute to the documents, to allow staff to edit content, while administrators can manage the wizard itself.

This upgrade will streamline the workflow for the documents, while unifying a document management system with the web-based project management application.

The Smak document wizard is in development and will be complete by mid-December, 2008.

Caring for our Youth website advocates for First Nations youth

Caring for our Youth (CFOY) is an organization that was formed in 2004 by Doris Xelemith Paul to advocate for youths of the Squamish Nation against many issues, including drug dealing, substance abuse, and violence. CFOY is a community-based committee that is run by volunteers, including First Nations members and individuals from local law enforcement. Doris took the leadership role to build bridges between First Nations community and surrounding community.

CFOY came to Netgenetix to create a website that will serve to educate and inform the community regarding CFOY’s work as an advocate organization. Specific goals include:

  • Network with other First Nations regarding social issues
  • Network with other advocate organizations

Rental Property Listings Now Promoted by via One West Properties' Website

One West Properties is a Vancouver property management company that came to Netgenetix Media last winter with a project to enhance the search engine optimization of their website, www.onewest.ca. The project was successful and encouraged One West to return to Netgenetix for Phase 2 of their SEO project, as well as new custom web development. The website now features rental property listings for Vancouver, a real estate blog, and a content management system.

Rental Property Listings

Property rental listings provide tremendous value to website visitors, while also providing new and relevant content for search engines. Property Listings on the One West website are managed with an online administration tool that allows creating listings, archiving listings, adding property listing details, and uploading listing photos. Calls-to-action include 'apply for a rental' and 'schedule viewing' online.

Real Estate Blog

Blogs provide amazing SEO value because they are content-rich, rather than graphics-heavy. Blogs are also suitable for an editorial focus to reflect on industry trends and local real estate news.

Content Management Software

Zowie CMS was integrated with the One West website to provide a simple solution to update the website and easily add new pages to their website. There is tremendous SEO value to fresh content that can be built out over time.

SEO Phase 2

Phase 2 of the SEO project expanded the focus of the original SEO project to include the development and revision of Vancouver-specific property management content, five additional keyword phrases, audit and analysis of online competitors, and structural revision of the HTML code for search engine best practices.

The upgraded website was launched October 9, 2008. www.onewest.ca

Pro File Client Care plans major upgrade to CRM Software for Travel Agencies

Pro File Client Care is an Abbotsford-based travel agency that has developed a software system for Customer Relationship Management for travel agencies. The new business direction of Pro File Client Care targets licensing their software to independent travel agents and travel agencies.

Pro File Client Care approached Netgenetix in June with a project to assess the existing code and plan the full scale project for feasibility. Based on the successful completion of this evaluation, Pro File Client Care has contracted Netgenetix for the current development project. The project goals for the web-based CRM software include conversion to new technologies, upgrades to allow for use by multiple agencies, and improvements and additions to existing CRM reporting functions.

Conversion to new technologies

With the expected growth of the CRM licensing to hundreds of travel agencies and independent agents, economies of scale and administration need to be addressed. The new solution will be converted from the existing software foundation to SQL Server 2005 for the database and .NET Framework 2.0 for all system and reporting code.

Multiple Agency capability

The current web-based CRM system will be extended to accommodate for use by multiple agencies; however the system will remain as a single site and single database solution. This will allow for simple and easy unified deployment of enhancements and upgrades to all agencies. All agencies accessing the application will use the same copy of the application through one common URL.

System Enhancements

The system enhancements include data validation, additional user permission levels, and as well as new reporting functions. All data entry functions will be examined and proper data checking and validations will be added to ensure the accuracy of the data entering into the system. There will be four levels of users for the CRM: Master Administrator, Agency Administrator, Agency User, and Marketing User. The new reporting functions include importing and exporting selected customer lists from the system.

Pro File Client Care's new whitelabel CRM system will be launched September 2008.

IQC Concrete Construction to showcase industry expertise and solid portfolio

IQC Concrete Construction approached Netgenetix Media in April 2008 to upgrade their corporate online presence. The new website features a clean modern design, clear information architecture, and a professional brand image. The focus of the website is a photo gallery to showcase IQC's portfolio of concrete forming construction projects.

IQC's construction projects focus on large scale commercial and industrial developments in Vancouver, BC. Their business strategy differentiates IQC from the competition on the basis of budget, schedule, and technical advantage. Their technical advantage is gained from implementing cutting edge formworks systems from Doka Formworks.

The IQC website is integrated with Netgenetix Media's content management software, Zowie CMS. This software allows IQC staff to easily edit the content on the website, to keep the site content fresh and accurate.

The featured website photo gallery engages IQC's website visitors, while providing valuable visual information about the company's construction projects. The photo gallery displays multiple photo albums, allowing IQC to showcase a large volume of images, while providing a logical organization to the photos on a per project basis. Within each photo album, website visitors can scroll through each photo individually, or utilize a slideshow function to allow an autoplay of the full album of images. The web-based photo gallery administration tool allows easy access for IQC staff to upload construction project images to the website. The tool automatically resized images to create two sizes (thumbnail and featured photo), as well as overlaying a corporate logo of IQC on the images.

The new website and photo gallery was successfully launched June 25, 2008.

SEO Promotes Visibility of One West's Website to Search Engines

One West Properties first came to Netgenetix in December 2007 to improve the website’s visibility with search engines. The project employed a 5 phase SEO project: establish baseline performance, define search criteria, implement website and content changes, notify search engines, and measure improvements. The post-project SEO audit provided details on the changes that occurred in the website traffic patterns due to the SEO changes. The two most important traffic pattern changes include sources of traffic and keywords searched.

Before the SEO changes, Search Engines only accounted for 17% of the visitors on the One West website. In contrast, in May, 67% of website visitors came from Search Engines. This is a huge change in proportion, which indicates the reality that new visitors are finding the website with their online searches.

The keywords that resulted in website visitors finding the site changed from only keywords that include the term ‘One West’ to include Vancouver-specific property management terms as the top keyword phrases. Vancouver-specific property management keywords now bring up One West within the top two pages of search results.

Overall, the project increased website traffic, but more importantly, increased the right kind of traffic, from search engines, using Vancouver-specific Property Management keywords.

Search Engine Optimization is an ongoing effort to keep a website visible and valuable to search engines. The recommendations thus far have focused on a core upgrade to the website for SEO goals, while new ideas for SEO focus on furthering the focus of the original SEO project to encompass content development, code structure, competitor analysis, and new keywords. Related web development that supports the SEO goals includes addition of content management software, a property listing application, and a blog to the website. Phase 2 of the SEO project, along with the new custom web development, is planned for Fall 2008.

LQA launches new web presence with a new site and online software demos

Leading Quality Assurance (LQA) is an industry leader in the international hotel service benchmarking industry. Over the past three years, through a partnership with our organization, LQA’s management team has embraced the power of the web for business strategy.

LQA consultants perform audits on luxury hotels, and report their findings to a centralized online website administration tool. Once the raw data is uploaded and processed, it is available for the hotel clients of LQA to view via a password protected client area web-based user interface. This extensive client area features advanced hotel reporting software. Clients can run data reports on various criteria to generate meaningful graphs and numerical charts about their hotel’s performance over time, and measured against competitors and industry standards.

LQA has recently redefined their business strategy to establish a new brand image, in order to better differentiate from their competitors. As a result of this rebranding, Netgenetix Media worked with LQA to redesign their website, design relevant print collateral, and develop a new corporate logo. The new design was inspired by the brand image for LQA: impeccable, modern, trustworthy, analytical, & global. The colors are bold and stylish. The website design is clean and modern. The featured flash map is a visual representation of the global brand, as well as a functional tool that adds wow factor. This tool allows visitors to zoom into geographic regions of interest to view sample hotel benchmarking data.

The project began over three years ago with custom software development. During the past year, this software has undergone a major upgrade for new features and functionality. These new features are conveyed to current and potential customers with password-protected online flash tutorials. These tutorials are maintained within a separate user interface that has been designed to match the look-and-feel of the new site, while promoting effective usability for an interactive tool.

The new website was successfully launched June 6, 2008. A new project with a software development focus is now in discussion. www.leadingquality.com

Applied Plastics Technology chooses Netgenetix to build new website

Applied Plastics Technology has once again selected Netgenetix Media to design and develop their company's website. Netgenetix Media first worked with Applied Plastics Technology in 2004.

Applied Plastics Technology is a Langley BC based Canadian owned and operated plastic injection mold manufacturer that has been producing quality injection molded plastics since 1989. Applied Plastics products include tamper-evident food-grade plastic containers and durable DVD / Media cases. Custom services include injection mold tooling and color offset printing.

The new website will need to convey a shift in Applied Plastic's business for a manufacturer that sells direct. Integral to this value proposition is fresh website design with a clear marketing message and focused calls-to-action to "contact us to buy direct from the manufacturer". The message will be reinforced by an accurate online product catalog and relevant supporting website content. Search engine optimization will ensure that the marketing message reaches not only current customers, but also new business opportunities.

The focus of the website development is a new online catalog that will showcase their plastics products. The product management system will provide them with an administration tool to provide a consistent page layout for each plastic product. The system will be developed as a database-driven product listing that will be the critical first step towards an eventual ecommerce platform. The new website will also be integrated with, Zowie CMS, a feature rich yet simple to use content management system developed by Netgenetix. Zowie will allow Applied Plastics' Sales and Marketing staff to have timely editing control of the website content.

Netgenetix will also be providing their search engine optimization service, Citrus SEO, to plan the business goals of the new website in the context of SEO. The current website's perfomance will be measured and compared with market competitors. Possible keywords will be evaluated and strategically implemented throughout the new website. Website traffic and usage statistics will then be monitored to report on website visitors, defining information such as origin, products of interest, and navigation path through the website. The SEO service will enable Applied Plastics to gain search engine visibility against their competitors.

Netgenetix has targeted the launch of Applied Plastics' new website for September 2008.

SpiceBox, a creative book publisher, launches their new web presence

SpiceBox Products, a Burnaby, BC creative book publisher, partnered with Netgenetix Media in January 2008 to create a new web presence. SpiceBox wanted to create a new online marketing strategy that would showcase their creative book products to appeal to both retailers and consumers, and to both adults and children. The new website was successfully launched April 22, 2008.

"It was a pleasure to work with Paul and Jessica, and the team in the background at Netgenetix. They listened to our requirements and objectives, and sat down with us time and again to come up with a solution that wouldn't break our budget," said Garret Chan, Creative Director at SpiceBox Products Ltd. "When SpiceBox  made the decision to build our website we had looked at a number of companies to work with and found that Netgenetix provided us with the best solution to fit our needs." Mr. Chan went on to add, "Through ongoing communication we were able to see the development process through from beginning to launch date efficiently and problem free. We are very happy with the final results and I would recommend the team at Netgenetix to any company looking for a customized web solution."

The success of the website comes from a clean corporate design that incorporates appealling aesthetics for the brand image. The clarity of the new online marketing message sits well with the SpiceBox executive. One of the highlights of the website is a product catalog which provides users with colorful product images and descriptions to draw attention to the quality and value of the product. A "Where to Buy" section lists the various retailers of the Spicebox products to tell users where to shop for the book-plus products. Additionally, an FAQ section helps website visitors learn more about the products. The website is administered with Zowie CMS™, a Content Management System developed by Netgenetix Media. The powerful simplicity of Zowie CMS™ allows SpiceBox's marketing team to edit, update, and change the website content in a timely fashion.

"The SpiceBox website design and development is a project the Netgenetix team was happily wrapped up in. Through the open dialogue with Garett Chan and his team we were able to create the digital presence they were after, and provide the self-maintained editing capability that SpiceBox had long dreamed about," said Paul Knox, Sales + Client Services at Netgenetix Media Inc.

Department of Justice consulting for design and usability

The Canadian Federal Government Department of Justice contracted Netgenetix Media in February 2008 for a website strategy consulting project. The Department of Justice provides legal services to the Canadian Government, encompassing policy, advice, and direction for the development of bills, litigation of civil cases, and support of law enforcement agencies. The Business Systems and Services (BSAS) team is part of the British Columbia Regional Office (BCRO), Corporate Services.

The project focused on an online strategy for the Department of Justice High Impact Case Strategy Intranet (HICS). The Government’s in-house web developers created the Intranet Site as an internal resource to manage information on high-impact cases. Federal Lawyers could then use the site to find the information they needed to manage High Impact Cases. However, the site lacked an overall vision because there were many stakeholders for the Intranet Site, all of whom were too busy to focus on championing the online strategy. It was common to not be able to find the information you needed, or to have information misplaced or duplicated unnecessarily. The result of their efforts was a valuable yet inefficient resource.

The Department of Justice chose Netgenetix out of several vendors because of our expertise in strategy, information architecture, website usability, and creative graphic design. Project objectives included improving website usability and information architecture to allow staff to find information efficiently, understand new features quickly, navigate site architecture easily, locate relevant content from multiple user paths, and use website as relevant resource

Specific and meaningful recommendations for their Intranet site were made through meetings with project stakeholders, reviews of the intranet content and structure, and application of knowledge for website usability and information architecture best practices. Through an iterative review cycle, supporting documentation, including sitemap and wireframe drawings, were prepared and presented. Based on these diagrams, we designed the user interface for the Intranet site according to Canadian Governmental guidelines for ‘Common Look and Feel’. We also provided technical style guidelines and documentation for coding resources to ensure effective knowledge transfer at the end of the project.

Urban Recreation launches web 2.0 makeover

Urban Recreation, a Vancouver-based Sport and Events Management company, has just launched a web 2.0 makeover of their website. Key elements include a user customized drag-and-drop interface for members, design toggle between a sport-focused design to a social-focused look-and-feel, new advertising opportunities, and a content rotator that targets website visitors with fresh and relevant content.

Urban Recreation originally came to Netgenetix in 2006 with a project to create a new brand identity, including logo design and website design and development. The focus of the project was the migration of the member registration and payment process from over-the-phone to online ecommerce management for their 10,000+ members. Other features of the project include photo gallery administration, email campaign management, and a custom content management system.

The project was hugely successful. "They listened closely to our needs and have provided insightful and practical web-based solutions to overcome our obstacles. This evolution in how we do business has resulted in streamlined processes that allow us to grow our business while saving us a tremendous amount of time and money every day." said Steve Laing, Managing Partner, "The success we have achieved in this short time has opened up our eyes further to the possibilities of the web and we are seriously taking advantage of it!"

The first phase of new project aimed to build upon this solid base by promoting Urban Rec's new social focus, as well as enabling new sponsorship opportunities. The website was modified to have a new toggle between two alternate homepages: the original red sport-focused design, and the new blue social-focused design. The site design was also modified for new ad zones and new featured treatment of sponsor logos. A content rotator was developed to drive relevant and timely content to the homepage, to encourage website visitors to click through to other areas of the website. This rotator was integrated with the CMS to allow a publishing schedule for each item featured in the rotator, as well as a tool to measure the click through success for each featured promotion.

The second phase of the project focused creating additional value for the website visitor by offering user-specific content and enhanced usability. Members can now login to a customizable member dashboard to find out information regarding their registered leagues, tournaments, events, and parties. Rather than searching the site to find out their league schedule among the sitewide listing of schedules, their user-specific schedule is now available via their dashboard. Members can expand and collapse dashboard information, and drag and drop page elements within the dashboard. The next time they login, the system will remember their customized preferences. Other features of the upgrade focus on streamlining website administration efforts with new member and registration reporting tools and upgrades to the sports league management system.

Urban Rec's new upgrades were launched successfully March 6, 2008. www.urbanrec.ca

Alaska Highway Aboriginal Pipeline Coalition plans new website

The Alaska Highway Aboriginal Pipeline Coalition (AHAPC) is a non-political, community-based, non-profit society based in Whitehorse, Yukon. The organization is comprised of eight Yukon First Nations who have a vested interest in the Alaska Highway Pipeline Project. The mandate of the coalition is to help the First Nations prepare for opportunities that may lead to meaningful engagement with their partners in the Yukon Oil and Gas Industry, the Yukon Government, and the Federal Government of Canada. In particular, the AHAPC is concerned with matters pertaining to: the regulatory framework, environmental assessment, socio-economic impacts, and benefits agreements.

The AHAPC sought out Netgenetix with plans to create a brand new website. The organization’s primary goal is to serve as an informational resource to communicate to their First Nations audience. As such, the new website will provide one central place for visitors to come to learn about Pipeline Project updates, stay informed about the activities of the AHAPC, and search for information on the Pipeline Project. Accordingly the site features press releases, a glossary of terms, a calendar of events, and a searchable document library. The website will be edited and kept up to date with Netgenetix’s in house content management software, Zowie CMS™, as well as a custom calendar application, and an online document management system (DMS).

The AHAPC sought a design that would convey the message of the website as a comprehensive reliable up-to-date resource that can be trusted. The design needs to have an informational focus that is professional, while still personal and engaging.  The design also needs to reflect its cultural context of First Nations values. This theme is demonstrated with earth tones for integrity with the environment, as well as symbolic imagery, such as a featured feather throughout the design. Striking landscape images also reinforce the environmental context, while the people-focused photographs relate the story of the First Nations as a community.

The site is currently in development and will launch in April 2008. www.ahapc.ca

SpiceBox Products creates new online presence as creative book publisher

SpiceBox Products Ltd. is a Burnaby-based book publisher that has carved out its own niche in the book-plus publishing industry (packaging a book with a component item). They produce a range of products for both adult and juvenile markets and their topics range from early education to home and garden.

SpiceBox came to Netgenetix in January 2008 with a project to create an online presence that will integrate their product focus with their marketing message. Their current site is a simple splash page that does not clearly demonstrate their product focus nor does it convey an effective marketing message for the creative book publisher. The web site visitor is left wondering what the company is and what it does.

The business strategy of the new web site involves effectively promoting SpiceBox's creative book products with a B2B focus on potential retailers, while also engaging direct consumers as a secondary audience. As such, the site needs to appeal to this hybrid of retailer and consumer audiences. It also needs to effectively showcase products targeted for both children and adults.

Inspiration for the SpiceBox web site will balance playful design elements, clean layout and organization, user-focused information architecture, easy navigation access to the product catalog, and appealing aesthetics for a corporate audience. The design theme will be engaging and creative, while professional and informative.

The new SpiceBox web site will be integrated with Netgenetix's in house content management system, Zowie CMS. The new site will be launched in April 2008. www.spicebox.ca

PickupHockey launches new upgrades and homepage design

Pickup Hockey is an online community for NHL Hockey fans (http://www.pickuphockey.com). The site is enormously popular, with a base of over 100,000 members, and 8 million page views in October 2007. Part of this success can be attributed to effective SEO, which finds PickupHockey consistently within the top few rankings for search terms such as "free hockey pools". However, the success can also be attributed to the value the site provides, because once visitors find the site, they stay and become members.

At the heart of the site is software that allows fans to manage hockey pools. This software includes email notification of pool statistics, a chat room between fellow pool members, and sophisticated management of the pools themselves. The site is informational and community oriented, so the design focus needs to be in balance with easy access to the site features via the homepage: recent blogs posts by noted fantasy hockey personalities, active forum topics by fellow members, the latest NHL scores, upcoming NHL schedule, hockey news articles, and login access to the hockey pool manager software.

PickupHockey underwent a recent rebranding that included a new logo design, and a redesign and reorganization of the homepage. The new logo design is bold and clean, offering easy recognizability, as well as a memorable effect for the site's name. The homepage design theme is gritty: mix of rough edges and smooth lines; compartments of information; masculine colors of black, grey, blue, and orange; & stylized images of hockey players. This theme is ideal for the target audience, and reinforces the branding of the site for its visitors.

Future upgrades include new features for the upcoming playoff season in April 2008.

Potential Squared adds US Site, expands UK site, and creates Corporate Blog

Potential Squared, a UK-based management consultant organization, approached Netgenetix last Spring with a project to define their brand identity. As a company that specializes in human resources consulting for leadership, organizational effectiveness, and management development, Potential Squared needed a brand image that could convey success, growth, and trust. It was essential that this image could be effectively conveyed across all aspects of the project, from logo design, to print material, and to website development. The new website, complete with Netgenetix's in house content management software, was successfully launched last August.

"Netgenetix consistently exceed expectations. Their communication is exceptional. They consistently delivered on schedule. Their advice is valuable and accurate. Leigh and his entire team are highly professional. They are friendly, approachable and a real pleasure to work with," said Annalisa Hunter, Company Director of Potential Squared, "Netgenetix displayed their creative flair by producing a strong image for us. Netgenetix's website content management system is easy to use, and puts control of content and updates firmly into their client's hands. In addition to the design and web build, Jessica Doig provided invaluable advice and direction in terms of search engine optimization."

Potential Squared has experienced tremendous growth and success that has in turn inspired new web projects. The organization is currently writing new content that will be geared to a particular geographic audience. The current UK site will become the dedicated Europe and Asia focused website, while a new US site will focus on North American content. A GEO IP database will be referenced for the website to automatically redirect a website visitor to the appropriate site based on their region of their IP address. Website visitors will also be able to toggle between the alternate sites from the website menu. Both sites will feature the consistent design and information architecture of the current site, while highlighting the most relevant content for that particular audience.

Potential Squared's other current projects include expansion of their website content and launching a Corporate Blog. Their website content will soon feature a dedicated section on Corporate Social Responsibility, including a Client Charter, Employment Practices, Community Charitable Partnerships, and Environmental Support Policies. Their new Corporate Blog will be designed to match the branding of the website. It will be available online to authorized readers, to serve as a secure and effective means of sharing ideas between their consultants.

Netgenetix is proud to partner with Potential Squared as they continue to expand their online presence. www.potential2.com

One West Properties contracts Netgenetix to provide SEO upgrade

One West Property Corp., a Vancouver based diversified real estate company, contracted Netgenetix Media in December 2007 to improve their world wide web search ranking by providing analysis and recommendations for web site search engine criteria. Michael Metcalfe, President, wanted to amplify the visibility of One West's corporate web site www.onewest.ca to promote their property management services to local Realtors and Property Owners in the Downtown Vancouver, market.

The SEO upgrade is a five phase project: establish SEO baseline, define search criteria, make web site changes, notify search engines, and measure SEO success. The first step required the establishment of a baseline of the web traffic and site performance to help measure ROI. The second process was defining their industry's relevant keywords for effective search engine crawling of their industry, geographic location, and core business. Once the keywords are defined, they were added to the site. It is critical to incorporate keywords throughout the page content, not just within the page metadata. Unique page-specific metadata was recommended and implemented for all the site pages. Other changes included adding a sitemap, incorporating footer text and navigation links, seeding keywords throughout the site content, adding alt tags to all images, and adjusting file naming conventions to include relevant keywords. The SEO changes were made and the search engines and directories were notified. At 90 days out the success of the project will be compared against the earlier baseline.

One West's SEO upgrade was launched December 29, 2007. www.onewest.ca

Smak promotes Lotus Awards photo gallery with flash overlay on website

Smak is a non-traditional marketing agency that makes 'visionary marketing dreams into tangible street-wise reality'. They seek to stand out from the crowd with their edgy tactics and marketing stunts. Smak's corporate website, www.smak.ca, reflects this stance, with its clean design, memorable imagery, and striking brand message. Their website was successfully launched last Spring.

"Netgenetix attention to detail and fantastic service has kept us coming back time and time again," said Claire Lamont, Creative Partner, "Being in the ad industry we needed a web partner that understood the importance of design and innovation, both of which we have achieved with Netgenetix."

Smak approached Netgenetix in November with a project to promote Vancouver's Lotus Awards for marketing innovation (www.whatchurface.com). They sought to feature photos from the awards evening within a revised photo gallery on their website. The photo gallery was then promoted with a striking flash overlay on the Smak homepage. The design of the promotion took inspiration from the Lotus Awards site to create brand synergy across the different websites. The flash animation allowed the featured promotion to dramatically dip and slide into place on the homepage, for most noticeable effect, while not interfering with the regular site navigation and usability. The effect was engaging, prompting curious website visitors to click on the promotion to view the photo gallery in question.

In addition to the Lotus Awards project, Smak continues to partner with Netgenetix for ongoing upgrades to their custom online Project Management System. This web-based application allows secure administration of project schedules, budgets, and project details remotely between their Vancouver and Toronto head offices.

Netgenetix values the partnership it has shared with Smak, and anticipates many new and successful ventures in the future.

Potential Squared launches new brand with logo, print, and website design

Potential Squared has launched its new brand: www.potential2.com

UK-based management consulting company, Potential Squared, approached Netgenetix last May with a project to define their brand identity. As a newly formed organization, they needed Netgenetix to understand their company and their goals, and effectively convey that to their target audience. The project incorporated all facets of their brand, from logo design, to print collateral, to website creation, including a custom content management solution.

Potential Squared is a human resources consulting organization that specializes in improving business goals through their expertise in leadership, management development, and organizational effectiveness. As such, their brand identity needed to convey trust, creativity, growth, and commercial success. Brand synergy across logo, print, and web design was a critical element of the project.

A modern and sophisticated logo was designed that translated well to the print collateral and the website look-and-feel. The print material included business cards, envelopes, letterheads, cd sleeves, notepads, and presentation folders. The website features a fresh and invigorating color scheme, intuitive information architecture, news feeds from the Financial Times, and informative case studies featuring Potential Squared’s diverse portfolio of clients.

As Potential Squared is a new company, it was important to design the website to be full scalable as they grow. Netgenetix developed a custom content management system that enables Potential Squared to author and edit content using a WYSIWYG (or What You See Is What You Get) editor. This web-based cms promotes continuous addition of content to the website over time while maintaining the core structure of the professional website design.

Smak launches new website, CMS, and project management application

Smak, a visionary guerilla marketing company, contracted Netgenetix last April to develop a new professional website with a custom content management system and a powerful web-based project management application.

Smak sought to create a new website that better showcased their company, and effectively conveyed their corporate brand and professional image. The resultant design is modern, clean, and fresh, creating the ideal match for the engaging content and striking imagery. The site features intuitive navigation, search engine optimization best practices, and a flash photo gallery of their extensive portfolio.

The project entailed not only a new look for Smak, but also new content, which is administered via an easy-to-use in-house content management system. Netgenetix developed the cms to empower Smak’s non-technical staff to take editorial control over the content on the website. The cms is structured such that changes can be made to the content without altering the core design of the site, allowing Smak the freedom to edit and create content, while maintaining the professional look-and-feel of the website.

The project management application is a web-based custom software solution that enables Smak to flexibly manage their creative projects. Smak can manage project budgets, team timesheets, dynamic calendars, project schedules, invoicing, project status updates, secure project files, client contact information, multiple levels of user access, as well as dynamically generate exports of project reports. This tool promotes secure, effective, and portable management of Smak’s marketing projects.

"This project was a major undertaking by both Smak and Netgenetix" said Leigh Byblow, President of Netgenetix Media, "beyond being a web site, it includes a key business application to manage their projects. Extremely careful consideration went into the software architecture so that it worked perfectly with their internal processes. The result was even better than both parties imagined. We’re already discussing what else we can do for their company!"

Smak’s web development project was successfully launched in July 2007. www.smak.ca

Smak, a national, non-traditional communications agency has selected Netgenetix Media to design and develop their company's new web site, as well as a mission-critical web-based application that will be used to manage their customer's marketing projects.

An intuitive navigation and an enhanced information architectural structure will improve the overall effectiveness of the new web site over the old one.  Unlike the old web site, the new one will include a sophisticated administrative application that will allow Smak's in-house staff to have complete control of the page content. Along with web-based site metrics (a statistical analysis tools), search engine optimization (SEO) management and other powerful feature components, the new web site created by Netgenetix will allow Smak to manage and track all aspects of their online initiative.

Because of Smak's steady, but fast growth they have felt the need to have a centralized, web-based project management application to bring further consistency and accessibility to their creative projects. After unsuccessfully searching the market space for the perfect off-the-shelf solution, they turned to Netgenetix to build an affordable custom online software solution that works with their current management processes.

"After an exhaustive internet search for the right tool to manage our projects we were unable to find anything that truly fit our specific needs." said Claire Lamont, Managing Partner at Smak. "Netgenetix listened carefully to what we needed and was able to turn those requirements into a professional design specification that worked within our budget. We knew that they could also handle our web design needs with ease, so it just made the decision to work with Netgenetix again very simple."

The new project management software will enable Smak to create integrated project budgets, manage staff roles with multiple billing rates, manage team timesheets, view and edit the status of a project, create and maintain multiple calendar-views, maintain client contact information, generate fixed and dynamic project reports, have multiple user access levels, enable customers to securely monitor the project status, and to store and manage third-party project files.

"We have worked very successfully with Smak in the past and we are very excited to work with them again on this important project!" says Leigh Byblow, President of Netgenetix Media. "Smak is making big waves in their industry and to have them choose us to develop their web presence as well as develop a key management application for their business demonstrates that we are doing things right and there is a belief in the products and services we offer."

The highly anticipated web site and project management application will be completed the end of July 2007 Netgenetix Media Inc.

Rebrand complete for premier sports & events management company

Netgenetix Media announced last week that BC based, Vancouver Sport and Social Club has just launched its new web site and e-business engine www.urbanrec.ca. VSSC selected Netgenetix Media last March to help it redevelop its corporate ID and migrate selected business processes to the web in an effort to streamline its operations as it grows.

The web applications developed and integrated by Netgenetix Media dynamically drive ‘client-controlled’ content, including event listings, sporting league information, sponsorship advertising, updated photo galleries and more, to various sections of the web site. The biggest accomplishment of this powerful web site was developing a system that allowed the over 10,000 regular members to register and maintain their membership via the web site rather than via telephone and fax. The cost savings to VSSC in human-power alone will be incredible.

In addition to the e-tools described above, Netgenetix developed an email communications tool that allows the company to drill-down and target specific members based on selection criteria defined by the client. This enables VSSC to tailor unique and personal experiences to its users which ensures that its members are always empowered with the latest relevant information.

The new web site can be found at www.urbanrec.ca.

National Commercial Corporate Real Estate Firm works with Netgenetix

Avison Young has just launched their new national corporate web site built by Netgenetix Media of Vancouver. Avison Young has eight offices across Canada and is as part of the Grubb & Ellis / Knight Frank Global Alliance of commercial real estate professionals, Avison Young has access to 9000 real estate specialists in over 30 countries and on five continents. Therefore, it was critical that the new web site, www.AvisonYoung.com, handle the demands of this diverse group of visitors who will be using the site as a powerful resource.

Wendy Waters, Research Director and Avison Young's Project Manager for the web site commented, "We chose Netgenetix because of testimonials from previous clients about their dedication to meeting customer needs and our experience was consistent with that. We were impressed by the professionalism and patience shown by Netgenetix, and thrilled with the look and function of the final product."

Netgenetix Media, one of British Columbia's premier web development firms, (located in Vancouver's Yaletown) consulted, designed and built the new site and its corresponding applications. "We're extremely excited with the launch of this project. Avison Young is a very forward-thinking organization and we worked hard together to introduce new ways to help improve their online offerings", says Leigh Byblow, President of Netgenetix Media. "It was a real team effort."

The sophisticated site includes, among many other sophisticated applications, a custom-built content management system allowing for locally and nationally updated French and English content, an advanced property listing management system with intuitive search features, a large searchable library of PDF documentation and reports, and an interactive location and people finder.

One of the major goals of the project was to enable the company to manage their company message freely. Because Canada is an incredibly large and diverse country it was important that each geographic region be able to shape and adapt their message independently, as needed. The new systems allow Avison Young to achieve that objective with ease, all the while ensuring that information is intuitively available to the site's visitors.

www.AvisonYoung.com launched on October 5, 2004. Plans for future phases of development are already being discussed between the two parties.

Netgenetix launches e-commerce component at PickupHockey.com

Netgenetix Media announced today that its online asset PickupHockey.com is now e-commerce enabled. PickupHockey.com is an online hockey venture that Netgenetix has developed over the last 18 months.

The online recreational hockey networking site that recently added online hockey pool management to it's growing list of services has been more than well received. This April its page views will reach over 2.5 million and the site now has over 110,000 unique visitors monthly. The major catalyst for this growth has been the addition of the hockey pools service. For the 2003-2004 NHL regular season those pools were free. While the site still offers Free pools it has now also added Enhanced Pools for the 2004 NHL Playoff season. The addition of the enhanced pools was the reason for the e-commerce addition. The pools ranged in price from $12 to $15 CDN and have been available since March 31.

While the private company won't divulge how many transactions it conducted this April 2004, Netgenetix President and PickupHockey.com Site Administrator, Leigh Byblow will say that business is good, "We're very pleased with the volume of transactions conducted on the new (e-commerce) system. And it's just the beginning. We're doing major site and system enhancements this summer in preparation for the upcoming 2004-2005 NHL season. Our members and users will be very pleased with it!"

When asked if he is concerned about the potential NHL lock-out hurting his business he calmly replies, "We're in this for the long haul, naturally a season without the NHL action presents major challenges but we've already planned for that possibility and we're ready. Besides, the site is diverse and can withstand set backs like that. This site continues to meet and then beat all of our expectations."

In addition to the hockey pools, plans for the e-commerce system include an online merchandising, an e-bay style hockey trading center and more. Netgenetix is also looking for partners to build out other the services at the site such as a league stat manager and is conducting feasibility studies for other aspects of the online portal.

Netgenetix Media, a leading BC technology consultancy firm, today announced that the Yukon Tourism Education Council (YTEC) Job Board web site has launched. This multi-dimensional web initiative, allows YTEC's tourism industry members to post available jobs on the site their awaiting job seekers.

"Imagine a place where employers and potential employees can meet even though they are thousands of miles apart. Now imagine that all these people had 2 things in common...a passion for tourism and a love of the rugged beauty of our Territory. That place now exists," said Darlene Doerksen, Executive Director at YTEC. "Thanks to Netgenetix Media the Yukon Tourism Education Council can now bring these passionate people together."

Along with design, development and deployment, Netgenetix will also assist YTEC with online marketing and ongoing maintenance and support. In addition to Netgenetix's technology strengths, the company's Vice President and YTEC's project Team Leader, Leigh Byblow has a deep understanding of the Yukon.

"I was fortunate enough to spend many years in the Yukon so I had the opportunity to witness the cyclical nature of many of its industries. I also witnessed first hand how when other sectors are hurting, the Territory becomes even more dependant on Tourism to keep the economy moving. This job board gives residents and would-be residents a powerful resource when seeking employment and employees. YTEC understands the value of leveraging the Internet to improve their offerings and this culminates in a better product offering for their users."

Ms. Doerksen ended with "Netgenetix delivered an online application that will have a positive economic impact on our Territory." YTEC is now in the process of populating the site with postings and notifying its membership of the new resource. They expect the great deal of interest with Territory officials to transform itself into a great deal of site traffic over the course of the year.

Ciserv Industries commissions Netgenetix to develop corporate site

Newly developed industrial giant, Ciserv Industries, has commissioned Netgenetix Media to design and develop their web presence. Ciserv Industries is owned by European juggernaut, Wartsila Group. Wartsilla is the worldwide supply leader in ship power and a major provider of solutions for decentralized power generation.

Netgenetix Media, located in Vancouver's Yaletown, announced today that it will design and develop the Ciserv Industries' site. The new site will include a sophisticated administrative application that will allow Ciserv's in-house administrators to have complete control of the web site including the management of its e-commerce transactions, web tracking and content management. These powerful features allow the staff at Ciserv to track all aspects of their online initiative. Ciserv is in a major growth phase and is acquiring companies from around the globe. The new site is completely scalable and Ciserv site administrators can easily accommodate this growth without the future involvement of 3rd party developers.

The hybrid flash and HTML site will showcase the many services that the Ciserv Industries group of companies offer. An intuitive navigation structure and enhanced information architecture will improve the overall effectiveness of the new web site. With the addition of a robust and scalable database infrastructure, this web site will emphasize more than the service and product line aspect of their business; it is the front line to their vast company.

"We are excited to be working with Ciserv on a project of this magnitude." says Solomon Wong, Account Manager at Netgenetix. "To have a company of Ciserv's size and global recognition choose Netgenetix as its developer is a real honour."

Hockey players Unite at PickupHockey.com

Just four weeks ago Vancouver based Internet development company, Netgenetix Media launched a hockey portal geared towards recreational hockey players called PickUpHockey.com. The site's main focus is to help hockey players find other hockey players for recreational and pickup hockey games in their region. You can also post and find games, arenas, leagues and even tournaments all across North America.

PickUpHockey.com is a North American portal site designed to create an online community for recreational ice and roller hockey players of all skill levels and ages. The site is sponsored by international hockey equipment manufacturer ITECH Sports Products Inc. and is a virtual place used to gather recreational hockey players together in one space for easy communication. And to top it all off this is an absolutely free service!

In the first 2 weeks PickUpHockey.com had almost 500 members and after 4 weeks they are close to having 1000 members across the continent! The split is about 50/50, Canadian and American members. The management of the site is forecasting 5000 members before the end of this year's hockey season in May. When asked why he felt the site was having such a huge success thus far, Netgenetix partner and avid hockey player, Leigh Byblow, responded, "There was just an incredible need! There existed a massive vacuum in the space that needed to be filled. I've been playing hockey my whole life and I know just how frustrating it was finding games in your area and other players your own age and skill level to play with. With the advent of the internet there is no need for us to continue like that. PickUpHockey.com solves that frustration"

How does it work you ask? The site is built around an online database that allows individuals to submit and search for players, goalies, referees, timekeepers, games, leagues, arenas and tournaments. People simply register and enter their profiles. Other hockey people then search the SQL database to find appropriate individuals to fill spots at their games etc. If there are profiles that match the criteria you searched upon, a list of matches will be displayed. You then simply use the web site's private email messaging system or use the appropriate phone number displayed in their profile to make contact. The same goes for games and leagues etc. so if you're in the mood for a pick up game just run a search in your area to locate a game near you. In addition to this free service the site regularly offers it's members some pretty cool prizes like free ITECH hockey gear and other merchandise.

ITECH and Netgenetix join forces to promote grassroots-level hockey

Respected worldwide as the leader in hockey product innovation, ITECH Sport Products Inc. announced its affiliation with Netgenetix Media to officially sponsor PickUpHockey.com, an online community portal for recreational ice and roller hockey players of all skill levels and ages.

John Balash, Marketing Manager, ITECH Hockey, states, "It is with great anticipation that we embark upon this bold new global hockey initiative. ITECH has always been a proud sponsor of vehicles designed to promote the sport of hockey at all ages and skill levels and this project is a perfect fit for ITECH.com, our Total Hockey Resource Center. In addition to this, PickUpHockey.com will also act as our premier sponsor of ITECH.com Design A Mask page."

PickUpHockey.com is a virtual space where recreational hockey players can find other players, goalies, referees, timekeepers, pick up games, recreational leagues, and arenas in their area. Visitors simply enter their profile into a database, specifying approximate age, skill level, contact information, availability and general location. Other players, team reps, and league organizers then search the database to find matching individuals to fill spots at their games.

"We are quite excited about this online venture as it truly encourages interactivity and unity within the recreational hockey community. Our affiliation with Itech Hockey was a natural fit for our new web portal. Itech's progressive approach to internet marketing and their leadership position in the hockey equipment industry were precisely what we were looking for. The future membership of PickUpHockey.com will demand a leading edge sponsor and Itech Hockey is that and more." says Leigh Byblow, Vice-President and Co-Founder of Netgenetix Media.

This winter, PickUpHockey.com will include a league stats manager, a printable rule book that will house every regulation from various North American hockey associations, online hockey pools and wireless accessibility for members to search the database by cell phone or wireless device!

Vancouver Canucks look to Netgenetix to cap off amazing hockey season!

Netgenetix Media has announced plans with Orca Bay Sports & Entertainment today to create, host and deliver its latest online email promotion and is in discussions to deliver future campaigns as well.

Orca Bay Sports & Entertainment Group is committed to providing high-profile entertainment events and is also a big community player in the Province of British Columbia. The owners of the Vancouver Canucks NHL franchise, Orca Bay, approached Netgenetix to offer its expertise to its online marketing initiatives for the NHL team.

Netgenetix?s unique design will utilize player-less video technology that deploys video playback directly in an email program such as Microsoft outlook.  Upon completion of the project, Netgenetix will have deployed this video email promoting season?s tickets and ice pack tickets to over 20,000 Vancouver Canucks fans.

"Through the creation of a video email campaign, Netgenetix will develop a highly energetic and emotional product for Orca Bay. The playerless video will increase the campaign's stickiness and produce a strong viral-marketing component." comments Tom Nguyen, Sales Manager for Netgenetix Media.

Netgenetix will combine it's solid design sense, and technical know-how to create a memorable email campaign. As we clearly state in our Mission Statement, we know that this project has to be edgy and exciting but we also know that it has to be within the realm of usability. If your customers can't use something due to technological restrictions then it's of no use to then. That is why the Clipstream technology is so attractive, you don't need a plugin. Netgenetix believes that the management of the user experience is imperative to the design and ultimate success of this and future email campaigns.
